Introduction

This Copyright Policy explains how the International Book of Organizations Index ("IBOX") treats copyright, intellectual property, website materials, platform design, digital directories, e-books, certificates, user-submitted organization content, and copyright infringement complaints.

IBOX is a product and global initiative of the World Council of Indigenous Games (WIG).

IBOX operates as an international reference directory, organization indexing platform, documentation platform, and digital e-book initiative.

This Copyright Policy applies to the IBOX website, member portal, directories, organization profiles, indexes, e-books, publications, certificates, graphics, designs, documents, and other materials made available through IBOX.

By accessing or using IBOX or submitting content to the platform, you agree to respect the intellectual property and copyright rights described in this Policy.

1. IBOX Copyright Ownership

Unless otherwise indicated, original content created by or for IBOX or the World Council of Indigenous Games (WIG), including the following, may be owned by or licensed to IBOX, WIG, or their respective rights holders:

  • website content;
  • original text;
  • page structures;
  • layouts;
  • interface elements;
  • graphics;
  • templates;
  • platform designs;
  • directory formats;
  • indexing structures;
  • e-book designs;
  • original publications;
  • certificate layouts;
  • branding materials; and
  • other original platform materials.

All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

The fact that information is publicly displayed on IBOX does not automatically mean that all materials may be copied, reproduced, republished, or commercially used without appropriate permission.

2. Website, Software, Design, and Branding

The IBOX website, member portal, software implementation, platform structure, visual design, navigation, layouts, graphics, icons, branding, logos, certificate designs, directory presentation, e-book presentation, and other original platform features may be protected by copyright, trademark, database, design, and other intellectual property laws.

Unless permitted by applicable law or authorized in writing, you may not:

  • copy;
  • reproduce;
  • modify;
  • adapt;
  • translate;
  • publish;
  • distribute;
  • sell;
  • license;
  • commercially exploit; or
  • create derivative works from IBOX or WIG materials.

You may view and use publicly available IBOX materials for lawful personal, informational, research, educational, or reference purposes, provided that such use does not violate applicable law or the rights of IBOX, WIG, or other rights holders.

3. IBOX Name, Identity, and Branding

The names International Book of Organizations Index (IBOX) and World Council of Indigenous Games (WIG), together with their associated logos, visual identity, branding, and related materials, may be protected under applicable intellectual property and trademark laws.

Users must not falsely represent an affiliation, endorsement, approval, partnership, or authorization by IBOX or WIG.

The use of IBOX or WIG names or logos must not create confusion regarding:

  • ownership;
  • sponsorship;
  • affiliation;
  • official approval;
  • certification; or
  • endorsement.

Any permitted use of IBOX or WIG branding may be subject to separate guidelines or written authorization.

4. Organization and User-Submitted Content

Organizations, members, and users may submit content to IBOX, including:

  • organization names;
  • descriptions;
  • histories;
  • mission and objectives;
  • photographs and images;
  • logos;
  • documents;
  • publications;
  • certificates;
  • profile information;
  • approval documents;
  • contact information;
  • comments and messages; and
  • other relevant materials.

The person or organization submitting content remains responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary:

  • ownership rights;
  • permissions;
  • licences;
  • authority; and
  • consent

to submit the content to IBOX.

By submitting content to IBOX, you grant IBOX and WIG a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission, to the extent necessary to:

  • store;
  • review;
  • process;
  • reproduce;
  • format;
  • index;
  • display;
  • publish; and
  • use

the submitted content for the legitimate operation and development of IBOX and related WIG activities.

This permission may include use of approved content in:

  • organization profiles;
  • reference directories;
  • indexes;
  • digital e-books;
  • publications;
  • certificates;
  • member services;
  • official IBOX or WIG communications; and
  • other services reasonably connected with the purpose of IBOX.

This permission does not automatically transfer ownership of the submitted content to IBOX or WIG.

5. Public Directory and E-Book Content

IBOX operates as a reference directory, indexing platform, and digital e-book initiative.

Approved organization information may be compiled, formatted, indexed, and published in:

  • public organization profiles;
  • international directories;
  • organization indexes;
  • digital e-books;
  • reference publications;
  • official IBOX communications; and
  • other related IBOX or WIG materials.

The compilation, arrangement, formatting, editorial presentation, and original structure of an IBOX directory, index, or e-book may itself be protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property laws.

Users may not systematically copy, scrape, reproduce, republish, redistribute, or commercially exploit a substantial portion of IBOX directories, indexes, databases, or e-books without appropriate authorization.

Individual organizations retain their respective rights in materials that they own or lawfully control.

6. WIG Certificates and IBOX Registration Numbers

Where applicable, IBOX may assign an IBOX Registration Number to an approved organization or member within the IBOX system.

IBOX may also facilitate the issuance of a WIG Certificate in connection with a relevant registration, participation, recognition, programme, or approval process.

The design, format, layout, branding, and official presentation of IBOX Registration Numbers and WIG Certificates may contain intellectual property belonging to or licensed to WIG or IBOX.

Users must not:

  • alter official certificates without authorization;
  • create misleading copies;
  • forge certificates;
  • falsely reproduce registration records;
  • use another organization's Registration Number;
  • falsely claim WIG or IBOX recognition; or
  • use IBOX or WIG materials in a manner that misrepresents their status.

An IBOX Registration Number or WIG Certificate does not automatically constitute government registration, legal incorporation, accreditation, licensing, statutory approval, or official recognition by any government authority unless expressly stated by the relevant competent authority.

7. Respect for Indigenous Cultural Heritage and Traditional Knowledge

IBOX and the World Council of Indigenous Games (WIG) recognize the importance of respecting the rights and interests of Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous communities.

Certain materials relating to Indigenous Peoples, Indigenous Games, cultural heritage, traditional knowledge, traditional cultural expressions, ceremonies, practices, images, recordings, symbols, or other cultural materials may involve rights, responsibilities, protocols, or sensitivities that extend beyond conventional copyright law.

Users must not submit, reproduce, publish, or distribute such materials without appropriate rights, permissions, or consent where required.

Users are encouraged to respect:

  • Indigenous cultural protocols;
  • community permissions;
  • traditional knowledge;
  • traditional cultural expressions;
  • cultural heritage;
  • community sensitivities; and
  • applicable intellectual and cultural rights.

The publication or indexing of Indigenous-related information on IBOX does not automatically transfer ownership, control, or cultural authority over such information to IBOX or WIG.

Where appropriate concerns are raised, IBOX may review, restrict, modify, or remove relevant materials.

8. Copyright Infringement Complaints

If you believe that content available through IBOX infringes your copyright or other intellectual property rights, you may submit a written complaint to IBOX.

Your complaint should provide sufficient information to allow IBOX to identify, locate, and review the material.

IBOX may review complaints in good faith and may, where appropriate:

  • request additional information;
  • contact the relevant user or organization;
  • temporarily restrict access to the material;
  • remove the material;
  • request modification or clarification; or
  • take other reasonable action.

Submitting a complaint does not automatically guarantee that content will be removed.

IBOX may consider available information, applicable rights, permissions, authorization, public interest considerations where applicable, and relevant legal requirements.

9. Required Information for Copyright Complaints

To help IBOX review a copyright complaint, please include:

  • your full name;
  • your organization name, where applicable;
  • your email address and other relevant contact information;
  • identification or description of the copyrighted work or other protected material;
  • evidence or explanation of your ownership or authority to act on behalf of the rights holder;
  • the URL or clear location of the material on IBOX that you believe infringes your rights;
  • a clear explanation of why you believe the use is unauthorized;
  • a statement that the information in your complaint is accurate;
  • a statement that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on behalf of the owner; and
  • your physical or electronic signature.

IBOX may request additional information where reasonably necessary to review the complaint.

10. Counter-Notification

If your content was removed, restricted, or otherwise affected following a copyright complaint and you believe the action was mistaken, you may submit a counter-notification.

Your counter-notification should include:

  • your full name;
  • organization name, where applicable;
  • contact information;
  • identification of the removed or restricted material;
  • the previous location of the material, where known;
  • an explanation of why you believe the action was mistaken;
  • information regarding your ownership, authorization, licence, or other lawful basis for using the material;
  • a statement that the information you provide is accurate; and
  • your physical or electronic signature.

IBOX may review the counter-notification and, where appropriate, seek additional clarification.

Submission of a counter-notification does not automatically require IBOX to restore content.

11. Repeat Infringement and Misuse

IBOX may take appropriate action against users or organizations that repeatedly submit content that appears to infringe the rights of others or otherwise misuse the platform.

Depending on the circumstances, IBOX may:

  • remove or restrict content;
  • decline a submission;
  • request correction or clarification;
  • restrict profile updates;
  • suspend member portal access;
  • limit account access;
  • remove an organization listing; or
  • terminate access to relevant IBOX services.

IBOX may consider the nature, seriousness, frequency, and circumstances of the alleged infringement or misuse.

12. False or Misleading Copyright Claims

Copyright complaints and counter-notifications must be submitted in good faith.

You must not knowingly submit:

  • false copyright complaints;
  • misleading claims of ownership;
  • fraudulent counter-notifications;
  • false statements regarding authorization; or
  • information intended to improperly remove or restrict another person's lawful content.

Submitting false or misleading information may result in:

  • rejection of the complaint or counter-notification;
  • removal of submitted content;
  • account restrictions;
  • suspension of access; or
  • other appropriate action.

You are responsible for ensuring that information submitted in a complaint or counter-notification is accurate and made in good faith.

13. Fair Use, Lawful Use, and Other Exceptions

Certain uses of copyrighted material may be permitted under applicable law without direct authorization from the copyright owner.

Depending on the applicable jurisdiction, this may include lawful exceptions, limitations, fair dealing, fair use, quotation, criticism, research, education, reporting, or other legally permitted uses.

Nothing in this Copyright Policy is intended to prevent lawful use of materials where such use is permitted under applicable law.

Users remain responsible for determining whether their intended use of copyrighted material is lawful.

14. Third-Party Intellectual Property

IBOX may contain materials owned or controlled by third parties, including:

  • organization names;
  • logos;
  • trademarks;
  • photographs;
  • documents;
  • publications;
  • external website content; and
  • other submitted materials.

The inclusion of third-party materials on IBOX does not mean that IBOX or WIG owns those materials.

Third-party intellectual property remains subject to the rights of the relevant owners.

Users must respect the applicable rights of third parties when accessing, copying, sharing, or using materials found on IBOX.

15. No Transfer of Ownership

Nothing in this Copyright Policy or through the use of IBOX transfers ownership of intellectual property rights unless expressly stated in writing.

This includes rights relating to:

  • IBOX and WIG materials;
  • user-submitted content;
  • organization content;
  • Indigenous cultural materials;
  • third-party content;
  • directories;
  • e-books;
  • publications; and
  • other protected materials.

Permissions granted under this Policy are limited to the purposes described and do not automatically grant unrestricted ownership or commercial rights.

16. Policy Changes

IBOX may update this Copyright Policy from time to time to reflect changes in:

  • IBOX services;
  • WIG activities;
  • platform operations;
  • intellectual property practices;
  • legal requirements; or
  • other relevant developments.

Updated versions will be published on this page with a revised Last Updated date.

Users are encouraged to review this Copyright Policy periodically.
